But with high-performance and high-precision gear comes a certain level of care. An Accurate reel is an investment that will see you taking on some serious fish for many years to come, provided you look after it.

1. RINSE WITH FRESH WATER.
Tighten down the drag to avoid water ingress into the drag washers. Rinse the reel under fresh water to remove any lingering salt water and salt crystals. Shake it off, dry the outside, and then leave to air-dry in a dry location. Release the drag when there’s no risk of water dripping inside.

2. OIL & LUBE
Once the reel is dry, make sure there’s oil in all the right places. Don’t apply any more oil if your reel is already well-oiled. There should be enough oil to keep components lubricated and moisture-repelled. Wipe off any excess. Take this opportunity to check for any signs of wear or loose joints.

3. STORE IN A DRY LOCATION
Once you’ve cleaned and oiled your reel, you’ll be safe to store it away for next time. Storing any reel without rinsing and drying it first is a recipe for fatal corrosion, and may not be covered under warranty.
